Avalanche danger forces I-90 Freeway to close overnight on Snoqualmie Pass

UPDATE 11:58am: I-90/Snoqualmie Pass is estimated to open at 3 p.m. today in both directions.


 
UPDATE 9:20am 02/16/2021: I-90 remains closed MP 34 North Bend to MP 106 Ellensburg due to avalanche danger. WSDOT crews will evaluate conditions at 12:00pm. Alt routes US-12 or US-2.

Heavy constant snow is causing an overnight closure for the 90 freeway on Snoqualmie Pass. According to the WSDOT I-90 will remain closed between MP 34 near North Bend and MP 106 near Ellensburg overnight due to extreme avalanche danger. WSDOT will evaluate conditions at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning to determine a safe reopening time.

The Summit at Snoqualmie is closing early at 6:00pm to allow those to leave the summit. Conditions are so dangerous the DOT sent out a tweet to tell those not to wait out the closure.

“FYI we are allowing those on the mountain to get off through the closure points. Please make a point to leave now and not wait it out.”


 
Snoqualmie Pass closed early Monday morning at 8:00am to conduct an avalanche control.
