Nearly 26,000 Confluence Health patients with Premera Blue Cross will become out-of-network in 2022

Those who use Premera Blue Cross insurance and have physicians at Confluence Health will lose coverage as the regional clinic will become an out of network facility on January 31st, 2022, at all of their clinical facilities. The region's healthcare giant announced on Tuesday that the not-for-profit healthcare provider will no longer accept insurance from the insurance provider.

Confluence Health stated the resining of the change was

"Premera’s unwillingness to pay a rate that is consistent with other commercial payers in the market has left us with no choice."... they continued to say "As your local non-profit community health system entrusted to provide high-quality care to every person that walks through our door, Confluence Health remains committed to being good stewards of the resources we have."

According to Confluence Health, the implications of being “out of network” depend on the benefit structure of each employer/payor plan. Some patients may face higher deductibles, co-insurance, and co-pays. To better understand the impact, we encourage you to contact your employer’s benefits office and decide how best to proceed. All Regence and Blue Cross / Blue Shield covered services are administered through the “Blue Card” system that relies on the Premera contracts with Confluence Health. Since this contract will not exist after January 31, 2022, these covered patients may be considered as out of network. Confluence says to contact your employer’s benefits office for further information.

The Moses Lake School District offers it's 1,100+ employees health insurance plans through Premera Blue Cross, Regence and Blue Cross / Blue Shield Insurances. It's unknown at this time what plan employers like MLSD have for their employees who will be effected by this change.
