Wanted Adams County homicide suspect in custody after shootout with troopers on I-84 freeway

-Troutdale, OR

A wanted homicide suspect was taken into custody late Thursday morning after a police pursuit and shootout with Oregon State Police troopers on Interstate 84 near Troutdale, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.

Troutdale is a suburb located east of Portland and southwest of Vancouver.

Law enforcement officers were searching for 26-year-old Grayson D.W. Morris in connection to a homicide in Ritzville, Washington early Thursday morning. Investigators said he was considered armed and dangerous.

The 84 freeway was closed down due to police activity at about 10 a.m. about a mile east of Troutdale.

Initial reports state that troopers tried to use spike strips and a PIT maneuver on the stolen vehicle that the suspect was driving. He allegedly abandoned the stolen vehicle and ended up carjacking another vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. There was an exchange of gunfire near milepost 18, and Morris was injured in the shootout.
