Wenatchee Police arrested a12-year-old Wenatchee boy after he allegedly threatened to shoot fellow students at Orchard Middle School.
Police said a student called police Monday to report that the suspect had made threats while playing the video game Fortnite.Â
The 12-year-old allegedly told his friend over his headset, "You better wear a red shirt to school because I'm going to bring a gun to school and shoot everyone."
According to court documents, the boy is facing charges of harassment with threats to kill. He appeared today in Chelan County Superior Court. His bail was set at $25,000. The boy's father said in court they had no weapons in the house.Â
The Wenatchee School District's Communications Director, Diana Haglund, said the boy will not be attending school while they work with police on the investigation.Â
"As with all matters of student safety, we have taken this very seriously and have acted accordingly, utilizing both school system disciplinary resources and necessary law enforcement action,"Â
Haglund said in a statement from the district,
"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and our schools have plans in place to address student issues such as this. This plan is reviewed and renewed annually with the help of local law enforcement."
