Vantage Highway Fire scorching 5,000 acres, Level 3 evacuations in place

Evacuations near the town of Vantage are at a Level 3 notice, the notice is for the areas of Lakeview Drive, Columbia Drive and Brown Street. Level 3 evacuations mean to leave immediately and move to a safer location. According to the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office firefighters combating the fire have cut power to these area for safety reasons and do not currently have an ETA for when power will be restored.


The wildfire temporarily shut down the 90-Freeway Monday afternoon but has since been back open. The growing Vantage Highway Wildfire is currently burning along the old vantage highway near mileposts 18 and 19 near the small town of Vantage located 36-miles west of Moses Lake. According to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources the fire is currently at a size of 4,500 acres and is being filed by dry terrain and winds. Firefighters will be working overnight trying to contain the fire.
