A bill introduced in the state Senate would establish the new Washington State LGBT Commission. Senate Bill 5356 is helped sponsored by one of the first openly lesbian lawmakers, Senator Claire Wilson of Federal Way
If passed into law, the bill would create the Washington State LGBTQ commission which would be in the hand of the State’s Governor.
The executive director of the commission would be required to monitor state legislation and advocate for legislation affecting LGBTQ people and also work with state agencies to assess programs and policies.
• The executive director would be tasked with coordinating with the minority commissions, women's commission, and human rights commission to address issues of mutual concern;
• Would also Work as a liaison between the public and private sector to eliminate barriers to economic and health equity.
